All doors to the Great Hall had been blocked. Completely. On them hung great streams of multi-coloured of tissue paper, sparkling with glitter. A large group of students, dressed up nicely, stood outside the door on the inside of the Castle, waiting patiently, whispering to each other; some already humming tunes to songs. The doors slid open slightly, and the group waiting hushed straight away.
Professor Albus Dumbledore slipped carefully through the doors, making sure he shut them behind him again. A large grin was spread over his old and wise face, sparkling eyes studying the faces about him.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," he cleared his throat before continuing. "Thank you for turning up in such lovely costumes. The Doors shall open at 4:45 p.m. exactly, and I thank you for waiting."
"Though I need to set a few... Guidlines. 1.) Dance 'till you drop, my friends"-soft laughter arose at this-". 2.) A table is set to the far side of the Hall with food and drink- feel free to pick and eat anything you wish. 3.) The Grounds are off-limits, so no getting out that way." More soft laughter arose. Dumbledore's smile never faded.
"And now I shall leave you to your waiting."
And with that, the Headmasted slipped back in through the doors, closing and locking them behind him. The Head Boy pushed his way to the front of the crowd, still wearing Hogwarts Uniform.
"Now," he called. "You are all aware that you should be wearing masks? The masks do not come off until midnight, when they are magically unsealed. Then you must throw them up in the air, and see which bird they turn into. Dumbledore's own trick, I must say." And then he went.
A boy stood near the front of the crowd, wearing his own mask. Which was of a dark blue colour. Amber orbs -making it clear who the boy was- stared glumly through the eyeholes. Remus John Lupin, the boy was- though, sometimes he was called Moony. He wore the clothes that every other boy wore- the dress robe. Not terribly nice, but he'd changed it. Thankfully his own robe hadn't had frills.
They were of a lighter blue than his mask was, though still a dark blue. Deep. He had 'round his neck a golden chain, and hanging from it was a sharp fang. A Wolf fang- pearly white and dagger-sharp. Remus sighed softly, wondering when the doors would open and why he'd never gotten a dance date.
But then the doors slid open, and Dumbledore appeared again.
"My friends, I welcome you to the dance." he smiled, throwing open the doors wide. The Great Hall was... Well, there were no words to describe it. The same multi-coloured tissue paper hung in streams around it, and the whole Hall seemed to be flooded with golden light. A stand had appeared at one end, and instruments stood there, waiting to be played.
As Dumbledore had said, a large and long Table stood on one side, littered with food and drink. People 'oohed' and 'ahhed' at the splendor of the Hall. Dumbledore had even gotten magical bubbles to float about, bouncing off people's heads. And little pixies -each a different colour of the rainbow- flew around, sprinkling dust as they went.
A grin lit up Remus' face, as he stared about. Dumbledore had clearly gone to a lot of trouble to get this ready, and Remus was going to love every minute spent here in this lovely place. Even if he /didn't/ have a date, it would be one of the best nights of his life. One to remember with his friends in.
(The Dance is OPEN!)
