"Hey! Why's my owl green?!"
The startled cry echoed throughout the Great Hall, sending a lot of the students into laughter. Remus Lupin looked up, auburn locks falling into his eyes. His own owl -MouseBreath- fluttered in front of him, the Daily Prophet in his beak. "Cheers," Remus muttered, handing the owl some bacon and some money to take back. "Go on then." The owl hooted softly, before taking off and flying away.
Remus sighed softly, unrolling the paper. The front cover hit him hard, like a man with a wet fish.
Lunatic Burns Down House Last night, a crazy man burned down a house in a small village not far off from Hogsmeade. Sadly, rescue wizards found the remains of a young woman inside a bathroom. The man, who was later named as Romeo, was seen walking down the street this morning. Later caught and sent to trial. Wizards are trying...
But Remus ignored the rest. His eyes were planted on the two pictures. One of what was left of the house, the other of what the house had looked like. A choked gasp came from his throat, amber eyes filling. That was his house, and his father's name. Did that mean...? His heart thudded, shaking pale hands gripping the paper weakly. Why?

Lily Evans sat surrounded by chattering girls as she tried to eat her breakfast. She was glad when the newspaper dropped onto her toast because now she had an excuse not to listen. So, anything happened recently? She thought silently. Licking her finger free of butter from her toast, Lily opened up the Daily Prophet. Reading the first paragraph was enough. She nudged the girl next to her, "Have you seen this?" She asked quietly, "I can't believe it, how could anyone do that, and on purpose too?" She said astounded at the thought.
Lily paused and looked over at another who was holding the newspaper. "Hey Remus, are you okay?" She said frowning slightly, he looked sick. "Oh, have you just read the article?" She asked, shaking her head she sighed. "That poor woman." Lily said sadly, unaware of her relationship to Remus.

A lone tear spilt down Remus' pale cheek, shaking hands still clutching the newspaper. He barely heard Lily's voice, his ears blocking out everything. His face seemed paler than normal, and he looked a lot sicker than he normally did as well. Remus' first impulse was the scream.

Lily blinked as she saw the tear roll down Lupin's cheek. "Remus?" She asked, less sure of herself than before. Was it something she had said? Or maybe Remus was just emotional because he felt sorry for that woman? She didn't understand what had brought on this emotion in him. Where was Potter and Black when he needed them? Although they probably weren't very good at comforting people. Lily glanced around for Anya, her and Lupin seemed close at the moment so maybe she could talk to him. She reached out to take his hands and that was when she noticed them, they were shaking. There was more to this than him just being upset about the article, but what? Biting her lip, Lily's emerald eyes softened as she looked at the pale boy. "Remus?" She asked gently, before putting an arm around him. She just hoped he wouldn't mind, after all they weren't the best of friends, although she did get along better with him than Black or Potter, and now Lily was worried about him.

Remus made no reply, or any motion as Lily placed her arm around him. Eyes wide, body shaking, he took in a sharp breath. Another tear rolled down his creamy cheek, his hands suddenly dropping the paper onto the table. Remus looked at Lily, biting his trembling bottom lip.

Lily felt so helpless as she let her large green eyes study Remus. He looked petrified. She watched, desperately wishing there was something she could do, as another tear rolled down his pale cheeks. Whatever had happened, she was sure he didn't deserve it, not Remus. He was also so kind and gentle and now he was crying, and Lily couldn't do anything to help or make it even a tiny bit better. "Oh Remus, what is it?" She asked quietly, her own emerald eyes sinking and her brow furrowing as she looked at him. She pushed her plate away and gave him a hug, praying that she could say something to make it at least a little bit better.

"Tha- That..." Remus trailed off, sobbing softly. He couldn't say it. The picture of what his house looked like now stared up at him, burnt and ruined. And in the picture, he could just make out what looked like a shattered glass jar. The one he had used to catch imps in, probably. "It's not fair." he whispered.

"I know." Lily said quietly, stroking his sandy hair soothingly. She assumed he was talking about the article but couldn't understand why he was so upset. She wasn't going to press him though, he was really quite distraught and it wouldn't be fair to try and force it out of him. Lily just held him to her, ignoring the shouts from the Slytherin table. His whole body was shaking, what could've shocked him that much? I mean, I know I was upset about it but he's.....she trailed off in her head. She didn't like to see him like this, it wasn't fair. Whatever the reason for him being like this he didn't deserve it, maybe some people did but not Remus. "It's not fair at all." She whispered back.

I didn't think he'd go so far.. Remus thought sadly. The bastard. A soft, weak snarl came from his mouth, mixed with shattering sobs. Remus looked like he was getting over-emotional about it, with all the sobbing and shaking.

Lily blinked as she felt the rumble on Remus' throat, a snarl? Or maybe it was just a sob? That was probably it. Lily let go of Remus with one arm, her other still wrapped gently around his shoulder, and looked at him, she was curious but wasn't going to ask anymore about it. "Would you like some tea?" She asked softly, as she reached for two cups across the table. This was her mum's solution to any problem that arose; have a cup of tea.

Remus shook his head weakly. Now wasn't the time for tea. He didn't want to drink anything. Didn't want to eat anything. "No thanks," he whispered, his voice high and brittle, breaking slightly. "Don't want anything. Thanks, though..." Amber eyes wide and tear filled, he gazed around the Great Hall, noting how some of the Slytherins were staring.

(What happened to Sadie's post?)
Lily nodded, pouring herself a cup she paused and watched him carefully. Following his gaze, her green eyes threw daggers at the Slytherins who were pointing at her and their eyes laughed at the two Gryffindors. "Just ignore them." She said in a vicious undertone. "Remus if you want to talk about it, I am here, okay?" That sounded so cheesy but she wanted him to know that she would support him if he needed it. Lily sipped her tea and placed the hot mug back on the, already groaning, table.

Sadie entered the Great Hall, her Ebony robes slightly creased as usual. She paused momentairly to watch the many students poitning and laughing at the owner of a green owl.
She laughed shaking her head before heading towards her destination, hte Gryffindor table. She froze as she saw Lily comforting a weeping Remus.
She frowned as she practically ran over taking a seat beside him. "What's wrong?" she asked, the newspaper article catching her eye. She picked the paper up, her blue eyes absorbing every bit of information and picture. She looked at Remus and Lily in horror, "How could someone do something like that?".
