Sitting at the windowsill of a slanted room, staring out of the web-splattered glass was Remus Lupin. He was pale, but Remus just dismissed it as being worried. His friends, for the first time, would see his house. They would see what Remus could really do. Just a glance around the room, the claw marks set deep into the walls and windowsill, would tell them.
Something was nagging at Remus’ insides, telling him something was wrong. Once again, he dismissed it as being worried. He sighed, staring out at his back garden. At the back, the metal shed stood out, gleaming in the midday light. What would they think when they saw the ‘Shack’, as Remus called it? Another sigh escaped Remus’ lips, as he rested his head upon his folded arms.
“Remus? Are you all right?” a gentle voice from behind Remus asked, making him turn around. “Yes, Mother. I’m fine,” Remus replied quietly, nodding at the woman. She had long, pale blonde hair, and sparkling blue eyes—Remus’ mother. She had that same shyness about her, the same calm and understanding.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to get you a new door quickly?” Mrs Lupin asked him softly, walking behind her son and laying a hand on his shoulder. Remus glanced at the door-less doorframe, nodding slightly, then shaking his head. “No, Mother. I want them to see it.” Remus answered quietly, in the same tone as his Mother. “Are you sure?” Julia asked, smiling slightly at her son. “Yes, Mother. I’m sure.” Was what Remus said.

“Okay, Remus. But I don’t want them getting scared or anything,” Julia sighed, turning to walk through the door-less doorway. Remus turned around sharply.
“Why would they be scared?” he asked softly, unsure. “Well, it’s just the claw marks, and everything, Remus.” Julia replied, sighing once again, before she left the room.

Why, exactly, he was nervous about going to the household of Remus Lupin, he wasn’t quite sure. Sure, he’d never visited any of his friends’ houses before, but that didn’t mean he should be nervous. He rubbed his hand through his hair again, it was becoming quite the habit, and walked up to the door. He took the traditional muggle way to Remus’ humble abode, as his mother had insisted and was now walking up the short gravel path to the nice house. He adjusted his navy messenger bag on his shoulder that held his clothes, toothbrush, the regular things you should bring along when staying at a friends’ house.
He was apparently the first to arrive as he couldn’t hear Sirius because whenever Sirius Black was around, you could hear him. He smiled as he took the first step onto the wood porch. Heart racing now, he stepped onto the porch, which creaked under his weight and made his way to the door.
Standing before the large white door, he took hold of the brass knocker and dropped it against the door. It bounced twice making two loud thuds against the wood. Now, all he could do was wait for them to answer. He shifted his bag on his shoulder and stuffed his hands into his pockets. And waited.

Julia Lupin opened the door, smiling at the boy before her. “You must be James. Come on in,” she greeted, opening the door wider for James to step through. “Remus is upstairs, in the door-less room.”
Remus jumped, hearing the knocks upon the door. It was James, he could tell just by the way his knocked. Sirius’ knock was louder, as if he expected to be invited in anyway.

James smiled at Remus’ mom and made his way into the house. He paused momentarily to look around at the papered walls and knick-knacks on various tables lining the walls. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and walked over to the stairs, placing his hand on the railing, his footsteps echoing through the near empty house. He took placed a foot on the bottom stair and made his way up the staircase, smiling pleasantly to himself, liking this place all ready.
When he reached the landing and looked around for the room Mrs. Lupin had mentioned. Catching sight of it, he walked quickly to the door and poked his head in, knocking on the door frame. "’Lo, Mr. Moony," he said grinning.

Once again, Remus jumped. “James! You scared me half to death!” Remus cried, snorting slightly. “I was just thinking about you and Sirius. Does Sirius suffer with nightmares? And I don’t want any comments about me,” Remus asked, grinning.

Ah, James. So organised, already at Remus’s house.
Sirius, however hadn't even left. Instead, he could be seen standing in a dingy room, a small bag on his shoulder and a broomstick in the crook of his arm.
Anxiously checking his clothes, making sure that they were muggle-like, Sirius looked about. He wouldn't see this room, his room until the summer. That was six months away. Tenderly, he touched the iron bed frame on which he hadn't slept since the previous summer. Indeed, he had only returned home to retrieve a few things - now he was ready to visit Remus.
Sighing, Sirius turned away, fierce eyes now concentrating on one thing... the one thing that would determine whether or not he would visit his two friends.
An ancient stink bomb.
As Sirius went to touch it, the shrill tones of his mother flew up the stairs, shattering the silence of his room.
"BOY! Where do you think you're going? You're not going anywhere, not without my say-so, an' I don't say so! When I catch you, you're going to wish you'd never bin borned! You're a traitor, that's wot you are, an' no traitor is gonna go gallivanting off whenever he feels like it. I tell you, boy...."
Blanking his mother's voice, Sirius shook his head. It was too late to have doubts now. Reaching forward, he placed a finger and thumb on the old practical joke.
Almost instantly, an invisible force took him by the nape of his neck. Closing his eyes, Sirius prepared himself for the dizzying sensation that he knew was to come. And come it did - and it stayed for quite a while.
Only when Sirius felt his feet touch the ground did Sirius open his eyes - blue skies and green grass met his eyes - and a little distance away, a distinctly muggle-looking house.
Sighing in relief, Sirius discarded the stink bomb, allowing it to fall to the earth - and crack, allowing it's putrid scent to escape. The odour floated up the boy's nostrils, and immediately, Sirius clapped his hand to his forehead. HE had known he shouldn't have used a stink bomb for a port key...
Shaking his head, and holding his nose, Sirius cautiously approached the house, the smell wafting up from behind him, following him.
Unphased, Sirius ambled over to the white door. Not bothering to use the knocker, he rapped on the door with his knuckles, beating out a merry rhythm.

Once again, Julia Lupin opened the door, with that same warm smile upon her face. “Sirius Black, I presume?” she asked, smiling down at the boy on her doorstep. “Come on in,” she greeted, opening the door wider for him to step through.
“Remus is upstairs, the room without a door,” she added, pointing up the staircase. Remus looked around, not jumping this time as Sirius knocked upon the door.

Sirius nodded cheerfully at the woman in front of him, "Yup, Sirius, that's me!" he smiled, the stench still lingering about him, "Nice to meet you!"
With that, Sirius squeezed past the woman and pelted up the stairs, eyes swivelling around, searching for the doorless room.
Within minutes, he had found it. Unlike James, Sirius walked straight in and threw himself onto the bed, grinning at his two friends. "Long time, no see!" he laughed.

“I wouldn’t say it was that long, Sirius! And my God, you stink!” Remus cried, laughing as he looked over to the boy on the bed. For a moment, his eyes flittered to the huge claw marks all over the wall, and in the doorframe.

Sirius sat up, "No," he agreed, "It wasn't too long was it?! And yes," he admitted, "I do stink. I used a Stink Bomb for a portkey. I should have guessed something would go wrong."
His laughing eyes lifted from Remus and Sirius lay his gaze upon James. As he did so, the boy couldn't help but notice the deep cracks, the chunks of plaster hewn from the walls.
A little nervously, Sirius began to speak again. "I, err, I lover the decorating Remus!" he remarked, "Really rustic! You sure have a lot of power...um...tools!" Sirius was obviously referring to the long claws that Remus was burdened with on nights of the full moon.

A nervous smile flittered over Remus, though it looked more like a grimace. “That’s nothing,” he muttered, sighing. “Anyway, I think you need a shower, before my Mum gets you with the hose.”
Sirius's eyes widened at his friend's comment, though he did not pursue the matter any further. Instead, he dug through his bag and seized his towel. Holding it aloft, he announced, "Yeah. I think you're right. Lead the way!"

Remus stood up, laughing now. Stepping out of the doorway, he pointed down the hall. “’Tis the door with ‘Bog’ printed on it. Courtesy of me.” Remus laughed.

Sirius laughed. "Great name!"
With that Sirius strode off, in search of the door bearing three letters. It didn't take him long to find it, and before long, the sound of trickling water and bad singing could be heard by all.
