Lily skipped up the last few steps to the owlery, a single piece of parchment clasped in her pale hand. Her fiery red hair had a slight flick in it today and flew out behind her as she rushed up to the owlery, if she wasn't quick it'd be dark soon and then the prefects might have a go at her for being out late.
Miss Evans selected a bird and attached her letter to it, instructing the bird to go back to her house. Her mind flicked back to when she had written the letter and she petted the owl before it took off into the darkening sky.
Dear Mum, Dad and Petunia,
I hope you're all well, yes I hope you're well too Petunia. I hope you had a good christmas, I had a good one even if I did miss you guys a lot. Thank you for the set of books, they'll keep me busy for a while and thank you for the dress, it's really beautiful. Christmas, it went so fast and I can't believe that it's already over, another year gone too. I can't wait to see you guys in the new year even if it's in the summer, it means I have something to look forward too. (Mum is Petunia going to stay with Grandma this year?)
School is okay, I haven't got in any trouble, like usual, and my homework is coming along well, I haven't been late for deadlines and I find I even have time to wander round the lake now. It's very calming. It was beautiful the other day, the sun was just rising and....you should've seen it. It was one of those times when you wish you could paint just so you could capture the moment forever...
Anya is fine, (you remember her don't you?) in fact I think she's getting along with someone very well. I had a faint interest in someone myself, but it didn't work out, you would've liked him, I think. This is really just a note to say how I'm getting on, if you have time to write back, I'd really appreciate it but I know you're probably busy with plans for new years...
Love Lily ~
Sighing, Lily turned as she watched the owl become a small dot against the now midnight sky, dotted with bright stars, glittering like diamonds. She walked over to the window and leant her elbow on the frame. A sigh escaped her lips as she felt the cool breeze lightly touch her pale face.
