"They do!" Sirius insisted angrily, "If you like them, they hang around with you. You hang around with us. That means the people that hang around with you hang around with us! And I'm not allowing a Slytherin..." Sirius still couldn't prevent himself from spitting the despised word, "To hang around with me! And I'm positive James won't want to put up with a Slytherin! And Peter'll do anything we tell him to! So he won't want to her to hang around with us, either! And by doing that, Remus, Peter will be, for once, doing something smarter than you!" By the end of this outburst, Sirius had sunk even further into the chair.

“Well then, if you feel that way, I’m not your friend anymore!” Remus yelled, grabbing his trunk and leaving the compartment swiftly.

"WHAT!" Jumping from his seat, Sirius grabbed the end of Remus's hastily retreating trunk. "You can't do that!" Helplessly, Sirius gawped at Lily, What do I do? he mouthed, whilst struggling to hold on to Remus.
"Come back!" he cried, "Remus, we've only just got on the train! Don't go off in a huff already!" As soon as the words were spoken, Sirius clapped a hand to his open mouth. He had said precisely the wrong thing.
"I..I didn't mean it!" he stuttered as soon as he was able to speak again, "I meant... I meant... Don't get angry with me - you know I'm stupid!"

But Remus was gone, ignoring whatever Sirius was saying. He’d had enough now. Sirius had gone too far. Yet, Sirius had seemed so caring. He hadn’t been when he found out.

Sirius shook his head as his ex-friend disappeared around the corner. "What do you think of that, eh?" he asked Lily tentatively, "I've never seen Remus shout like that, have you?"
Sirius sighed as his words dissolved into mere thoughts. He'd done it again. Lost a friend before they'd even arrived at Hogwarts. Well... They'd make it up. Wouldn't they? He hoped so... Sirius didn't know what he'd do without Remus - the level headed one of the group...

Remus sighed, flinging open the glass door of an empty compartment. The glass in the door rung, before shattering into a thousand pieces. Remus didn’t bother to clean it up, he just sat there on the seat, fuming. I’ll kill him- I swear! I hate him!

“Hey! Hey- Lassie! Where are you going, Lupin? Hey!” A small, squeaky voice called from the floor. “Don’t leave me with the blood-traitor! Hey!” The twig, so named Edwood Stick Royal, was jumping up and down, staring up at the shut door before it.

Sirius heard the tinkle of shattered glass before the tiny, high-pitched voice - though it was the second sound that he gave most attention to.
Bending down, he lowered his face to the small twig. "Blood-traitor? Do you mean me?!" Sirius asked, his indignant tones shattering the silence. "I was going to help you, but if you're calling me a blood traitor, I won't!"
Checking to make sure Lily wasn't watching him, Sirius stuck his tongue out at the twig-like creature. a childish gesture, yet seemingly appropiate.

“Yes, you, blood-traitor,” the twig spat, glaring up at him. “You think I mean the Mudblood? She’s got no decent family to be a traitor to!”

"What do you mean, blood-traitor?" Sirius hissed angrily, before turning to gaze in amazment at Lily. "Hang on," he said to her, before picking the creature up between finger and thumb. The boy edged out of the compartment, praying the twig wouldn't hurt him.
As soon as he was in the cool air, he felt much better. Setting the twig down, he began to break down the dam to his river of questions. "What the hell do you mean? I'm not blood-traitor!"

“You are. Your family consider you a traitor!” Ed snapped back, eyes wide and round, holding every means of hurting Sirius.

Sirius gulped.
"Keep your voice down!" he hissed furiously, before whispering, "How do you know about that?" Brushing his question aside, Sirius hurried on. "Besides, I'm not the traitor! They are! All of them! They're evil, pure evil. They work in dark magic and you know it!"
He glared at the stick, oblivious to how ridiculous the scene would look to any passer by.

Ed sighed, shaking his wooden head. “Maybe if you paid attention to your ‘traitor’ family, you’d know!”
"What?!" The stick had succeeded in thorouhly bewildering Sirius. "Talk. Now." His tones were masked in what Sirius obviously thought to be threatening tones. "I want to know to know everything you know about me, or I'll..." Sirius hesitated, trying to think up some horrific punishment, "Or I'll snap you!" he breathed, thankkful to find one.

Ed grinned. “You have no idea. Your family consider you a traitor, because you’re in Gryffindor instead of Slytherin.”
