Corbett sighed, "Just sit down, Miss..." The teacher muttered as he rubbed his forehead in exasperation. "I won't give you a detention..this time, but don't let it happen again." Corbett then proceeded to eye Sirius' hand suspiciously, why was he so keen to prove that he could do it? Shaking his head, he cursed himself, don't be so untrusting, he's just a thirteen year old after all. He nodded curtly and gestured for Sirius to come to the front of the class and demonstrate the wand movements. "Why don't you bring..Mr.Lupin? Is it? Yes, will Mr.Lupin please come up here too?" Corbett asked around the class, before settling on a sleeping figure at the back. Judging by the fact that everyone's heads had turned to search for Lupin and had rested on the sandy haired figure at the back, Corbett figured that the sleeping boy was in fact Remus Lupin. His smile faltered for a minute, before striding to the back and banging on the desk in front of the 'napping' boy. "Wakey wakey, one student oversleeps, but one appears never to have woken up. Come on, you can help Mr Black with the spell." The teacher said briskly. "I don't know what's wrong with you all, when I was at school, we never acted like this around our teachers." He mumbled before marching back to the front.
Lily watched with interest, although she was a little disgruntled that her own hand had been either ignored or unseen. Sirius Black, offering to actually do something in class? There was definately something wrong with this. She narrowed her emerald eyes slightly but said nothing as she looked at the diagrams on the page in front of her and waited for Black to do...something. Poor Remus, she winced as Corbett's reprimands reached her ears at the front of the class. He didn't look very happy, more like an angry rhino, if the rhino had wispy hair and a purplish tinge to his face, not forgetting the vein now pulsing in his temple. Lily hastily returned to the book in front of her as the teacher came back to the front of the class, she didn't want to get on the wrong side of a new teacher now, did she?

“What?” He jolted awake, wide deer-caught-in-the-head-light eyes staring around, and a slight blush came to his pale cheeks as he saw that quite a few people were staring at him. As he heard Corbett speak (“When I was at school, we never acted like this around our teachers.”) Remus frowned, muttering darkly beneath his breath. “But you didn’t have to spend every month screaming yourself deaf.” Though, the lad was by no means getting up. He’d much rather have gone back to sleep, but he knew that everyone was waiting on him. Well, Remus wasn’t going up the front until Sirius went. “Would you mind explaining it again?” he asked.

She laughed. Poor Remus it wasn't his fault he had been sleeping. Well it was but everyone was tired for some reason today. She tryed to straighten up but instead fell further down in her chair. "Ouch" she said landing on the cold hard floor.

Corbett sighed as he turned to face his class, he noticed the girl now sat unceremoniously on the stone floor and rolled his eyes before returning to the boys at the back who had still refused to move. Cocking an eyebrow he sighed again and began to explain to the whole class what it was they were doing.
"Aim is very important to spells, in both senses of the word. You need to know where it's going and what to do. Now, let's say that you are actually in a duel, remember that word: suppose. I do not expect to find any of you using this around the school, I would hope you don't use anything against your fellow classmates, however this is extremely important that you do not use this incantation." He paused for a moment, allowing the seriousness of his voice to sink in. "This spell produces an extremely bright light, momentarily blinding your opponent, allowing you to run to get help. This isa DEFENSE spell." He mouthed the word slowly, "This is not a spell to allow you to get a good spell in whilst your opponent is blind. As I was saying, this spell either allows you to escape or prevents the attacker from casting another spell and getting it on target, as they can no longer aim. This spell is /quite/ advanced, but I'm sure you an all handle it, being mature young adults." He smiled at this, his previous anger and frustration ebbing away slightly as he held the attention of the class. "Now the incantaion for this is 'illumini' however it also requires the correct wand movement. As I said, it is /quite/ advanced for third year students as if you say it too sharply the temporary blindness could become permanent or other side affects can be much worse..." He trailed off threateningly, allowing their imaginations to fill in the blanks. "Now, I want Mr Black and Mr Lupin to show the class the wand movements, and don't say the incantation. If you do, the whole class could end up seeing spots for at least a week, not amusing as it sounds, believe me. So please, biys, the wand movement?" He once again opened the floor to them at the front, following the silence of his own little speech.
Lily sat, her quill writing furiously what Professor Corbett said before she looked expectantly towards the back of the room where the two boys were still sat.

Sirius was, by now, in hysterics. Remus' lack of response and the antics of Sirone had invoked a fit a laughter that the boy was quite unable to keep at bay.
Chuckling, he stumbled to his feet, attempting to catch everyone's eye. "Close you eyes!" he mouthed as he shuffled to the front of the class. "Close!"
Warily, the teen eyed the teacher. Had he seen the mouthing of the instructions? Brushinghis uncertainty aside, Sirius stood in the correct stance for a duelling spell. "I'm ready!" he grinned, raising his wand in anticipation.

Remus, rather uncharacteristically, remained seated. He was in a bad mood now, and refused to go up to the front of the class. He was letting Sirius do it, seeing as the other Gryffindor wanted to. He, unlike the rest of the class, didn’t shut his eyes, apparently having missed Sirius’ mouthed warnings. “Go ahead then, Mr Black.” Corbett prompted. {Had to steal him for a moment. ^^}

Sirius nodded to Corebett, before quickly turning away from the class and screwing his eyes tightly shut. And then: "Illumini!"
The cry accompanied a perfectly formed wand movement, shattering the expectant hush that had fallen upon the class.
Suddenly a bright light formed at Sirius' wand tip - so great was the change in luminosity, that the teen was able to see it through the lids of his eyes. "Run!" he cried to his classmates, "Go!"

Remus yelped loudly, falling backwards off his chair. He couldn’t see, couldn’t see anything but a bright light. Students with their eyes shut stumbled out of the classroom, a few running into walls or falling other, or stumbling into each other. Remus leapt to his feet, hand clasped over his eyes as if it was actually helping him. “Sirius!”<br>

'Oh brilliant' she thought. She remained where she sat not bothering to go outside like the others. She closed her eyes and grabbed her bag searching for her wand. She found it andthought of the only spell which could counter a light spell. Unfortunately it was only to counter Lumos. "Oh well might as well give it a go" she muttered pointing her wand at Sirius'. "Nox" she said loud enough to be heard. "Damn" all it did was dim the glare at the most.

She sighed realising she could still see even though her eyelids were closed. She grabbed her bag and shielded her face with it trying to stand up completely forgetting she was underneath her desk. There was a sudden sickening crack as she wacked her head against the desk leg. "Oww" she muttered. She she sighed and decided it would be safer just staying there. she pressed the material of her bag to her face so it blocked out some of the blinding light.

A gasp escaped Corbett's lips as he began to feel in front of his face. The light had been so bright! Had that boy not listened to any of the warnings he had just stated?! What an idiot. Even stating the spell was reasonably bad, but shouting it?! He could've blinded the whole class! "Black!" Corbett roared amongst the shrieks and cries coming from outside and inside from students. "Black! Detention for a month, 50 points from Gryffindor and go see Professor McGonagell! I am extremely disappointed in you, now get out of my sight." Corbett almost smiled at the irony of his last phrase, he already is out of my sight, he thought irately.
Reaching for his wand, the new Professor clasped his fingers around the wood and pointed it to the ceiling, a tumble of words erupted from his mouth, mainly curse words, before finally he shouted; "Illix!" The light dimmed before finally dying from Sirius' wand tip and Corbett found himself gingerly rubbing his eyes before they came back into a hazy focus. The sight that swam before him was not a pleasant one for his first day. He sighed and tried to ignore the dots flashing before his eyes.
"Okay, everyone, open your eyes. Is there anyone that still can't see anything? Anyone who feels ill or is still seeing complete darkness raise your hand." Corbett shouted, hoping that the children in the hall would also hear his cry.
Lily was one of the people still sat in her chair, although she was losing her balance as she tried to swipe away the white dots that danced merrily, tauntingly, before her blinking emerald eyes. The only thing that had kept her in her seat, was shock. Her mouth was slightly agape as she continued to teeter dangerously in her chair. The beginnings of a headache began to pound in her mind and she silently cursed Black. Why was he so stupid? Corbett had warned them about side affects but nooooo he had to show off once again with a complete lack of regard for the rules.

SHe smiled and opened her eyes letting her bag drop to the floor. She raised herself upwards slowly to her seat and put on a fake smile. She felt ill but that was because she had wacked her head against the table, that wasn't really Sirius' fault was it? Well even if it was she didn't want to get him into trouble. The two main reasons for this were that she felt more awake now and it had been rather amusing, to be truthful.

Sirius, meanwhile, was in the process of laughing hysterically. All the punishment he had received was nothing, when compared to the panic Corbett's voice had contained.
An uncontrollable sens of glee welled up in the boy's heart, and he doubled over, clutching his now dim wand tightly. "S... s... sorry professor!" he giggled, turning his scarlet face to the irate professor, "It just slipped out of my mouth... I... I... I..." But Sirius could speak no more.
Once again he lapsed into a fit of helpless laughter, before straightening up and regarding his class-mates. Most seemed to have escaped the classroom - and it didn't look as if they were coming back. Sirius nodded blissfully... just as he had intended.
His gaze then fell upon the survivors of the spell, however. Lily... it didn't surprise him that /she/ hadn't run... Sirone... she'd probably wanted to see what had happened... A few other pupils and - Remus!
Sirius' jaw dropped as he caught sight of his friend. He obviously hadn't taken heed of his mouthed instuctions... Oops. "Sorry..." the apology was mumbled to everyone, and for once, was sincere.

She smirked. "Well that was amusing" she muttered. MAybe Sirius was ok after all. Atleast he had stopped class for a bit. Still tired she decided to say she didn't feel well. "Uh I don't feel well but that is because I hit my head when getting up not because of the light" she siad to the teacher. She smiled "I should go to the hospital wing i could get a concusion" she added.

“Jeez-us Christ-- what the hell was that for? You think you’re so bloody smart!” Remus cried, his sight clearing now as he glared angrily at Sirius. “You just have to blood show-off, don’t you? Have to be the best of the best! Didn’t you even /listen/? People could go /blind/!” He added in the same angry tone. What the hell was Sirius playing at?
