The class sat, whispering to each other, waiting for their new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher to arrive. They didn't know who their new teacher was, or what he looked like. And then the class went silent as a man walked in, carrying a fancy suitcase bearing the name 'Professor Paul Corbett'. He looked old, but still clinging to his youth in some ways. Raven locks were lined with grey, showing that he was ageing. As he sat at his desk, he sighed.
"Now class. I am Professor Corbett. Your new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher- clearly." Corbett nodded, laughing slightly. "And hopefully I won't be..- chased off." He added, smiling. At the back, a Third Year Gryffindor coughed lightly, blushing faintly for some reason. Remus Lupin looked down, furious at himself for blushing- even lightly.
"Right. If you could all turn to page 564, I think we'll start on our new topic, which Professor Dumbledore has kindly suggested." Corbett suggested, and the class all turned the pages in their books. Remus sighed, turning his pages until he came to the page suggested. A frown came over his face. Vampires? What was the point in this- they'd probably never come across a Vampire. But nonetheless, Professor Corbett began to read from the book to them.

A third year Gryffindor looked up as the new teacher arrived. She smirked slightly at him before turning to the page he had asked them to read. She elbowed Remus who was sat next to her lightly. "Why are you blushing?" she whispered as Professor Corbett read about the myth of Dracula and how there was no Dracula but a similar vampire.

A 13-year old James Potter rolled his eyes, although he quite enjoyed DADA he wasn't really interested in Vampires. What was the point? When in his life would he meet a vampire? Although he had thought that about werewolves and there was Remus sitting behind him.
He turned around and grinned at Remus and Sadie. "Fun," he muttered, raking a hand through his hair before turning back to the front.
He had his parchments and quills infront of him, although he was having more fun levitating them to see how high they could go without the Professer noticing.

"Because he was talking about Carrol and looked at me. Now she was one evil teacher." Remus muttered back, glancing at the front of the class where Corbett continued to talk about various vampiric religions and such. Remus sighed, looking at the back of James' head. "Not so fun."

"Yeaqh.. Well if he behaves no-one will needto chase him off or cover him in custard. Which reminds me, did you ever print that picture onto parchment?" she whispered before grinning at James. "Just charm your Quill to write down whatever he says.. Might impress Lily.."

James ears pricked up at the mention of Lily. He turned round again, "Why would Remus want to impress Lily?" He asked, even though he was aware of Remus' feelings Re: Sirius, he was a little... Jumpy when it came to Lily and other guys....!!

"I was talking to you, you dimwit!!" She retorted rolling her eyes. "Normally you think the mention of Lily's name has something to do with you!"

Lily Evans sat near the front of the class, her book already open on the desk in front of her, and obviously unaware of the conversatoin at the back of the class. Her auburn hair had been tied back in a white ribbon, she had taken fondly to the scrap of material, and her emerald eyes were studying the new teacher with something close to curiousity. Pulling out a quill from her bag, she was poised, and ready to begin the lesson.

Corbett coughed lightly, trying to get the small group of friends' attention. Namely, Sadie, James, and Remus. "Well then. Can Mr Potter tell me two ways to kill a Vampire?" Professor Corbett asked, watching James continuedly.

Lily spun in her chair to look at the small group at the back and rolled her eyes at Potter before smiling. Noticing that Corbett now had his full attention on the three at the back, took the oppurtunity to pick up her book and hold it up for James to see whilst stabbing her finger at a large picture on the left-hand side page. The girl beside her, Claire, looked at Lily in horror. Since when did she help Potter in class?

James gulped, ah poop... He didn't know that. He ran a hand through his hair, stalling for time.
"Well Sir," He said, "There are many ways to kill a vampire. In fact it's like that old time question- How many Roads can a man walk down, before you call him a man... Or something..." He trailed off, until Lily caught his eye. She was holding up a book and stabbing at the page violently.
"Of course two ways could be, sticking a stake through his heart and garlic..." he trailed off, of course he'd read that straight from the book.

Sadie snorted as Corbett picked on James. She purposely knocked her quill over and procceded to duck under the table and collapse in a fit of silent giggles. She soon reappeared after, her quill in hand. "Uh. Yeah.. Well done James mate.." she teased biting back the laughter.

Corbett sighed. "Mr. Potter, I do suggest you pay attention in my classes from now on," He paused, eyes sweeping over the class. "There are two creatures that are most well known- save for the zombie. Vampire and..? Anyone care to suggest, and tell me in what way you kill one?" Corbett looked about, yet again.

James sniggered and turned round briefly to wink at Sadie.
He took a piece of paper and wrote "Thanks Lils!" He then levitated across the classroom behind Corbetts back, praying he wouldn't notice.
