A hum echoed off the corridor walls, the soft melody of a long forgotten tune, each note harmonizing with the last as the singer continued. The noiseless movement of feet was a feeling, not a sound. A young woman moved through the hallway, undaunted by the emptiness, the silence. For, the silence was not a hole that needed to be filled, it was simply hung in the air, surrounding the girl and her hum.
Her dark brown locks shimmered in the soft moonlight that sifted through the odd windows, that appeared to almost have been planted randomly in the walls, rather than be crafted there by design. As the girl stepped into the light of each arched glass pane, her whole face was lit up with an eerie glow, before she was once again submerged in the darkness. She stepped gently into the light of one particular window, her face turning towards the source of light. She watched the half moon radiate it's rays onto the uncaring world, gently caressing everything it touched, like some heavenly angels touch.
The un-named girl was not particularly beautiful, but, instead, rather strange looking. She held her head proudly, though not arrogantly as she had nothing to be particularly proud of. Her almost ebony locks were swept back by a deep blue scarf that trailed across her left shoulder and swayed as she walked. Tracing down the curve of her pale forehead, the stranger's eyes were a deep blue, a mist that swirled around the pupil, never still, but when one looked closely, nor was it moving. It pulsated with a glow that only she could manage to obtain in those deep eyes. Her nose slid slender down the centre of her face, artistically sculptured to match her sloping cheeks. Her lips were a vibrant red, smiling softly, so softly that just the edges upturned in a smile, her whole face giving the impression of a happy girl.
The girl had stopped now, but her humming had not ceased as her chest moved up and down matching the pace of her breathing, that echoed the beating of her heart as the music surrounded her, embracing her whole, taut body, waiting for the climax to hit the crucial note and fade away into the distance, eager to be reborn into some great crescendo that would never come. As the notes died on her lips, she sighed as she traced the flight of a bird across the night sky, floating past the millions of sparkling stars, glistening like the sky had been invented, simply for them to fill.
Her head tilted to the side, her long mop of hair moving with her as her weight shifted from one foot to the other. The seventh year had left the Ravenclaws for some peace and quiet, she had found the people she had been with had suffocated her, making her want to break away from them all, just to be free to fly on her own, anything to claw away from what everyone expected.
The Ravenclaw submerged herself into the flight of the lone bird, her mind pushing out, out the window, out of her body, reaching out for the crying bird that floated effortlessly on the soft breeze. The smile on her face became more obvious as she broke her gaze from the bird and continued down the corridor.
Her corridor.
Ever since first year, when she had stumbled across this long hallway of uneven, irregular windows on the right, and even randomer doors on the left, she had never seen anyone down here. This was her place to come and think, to come and sing, to come and dance, to be released. The doors sometimes opened, and sometimes didn't, it didn't matter to her, she had never paid heed to such things. When she needed a room, it would be there for her to enter, but she had never seen a day when all the doors were open at the same time. Always one left to discover, always one left to be a secret. She smiled at the thought and draped her arms along one of the walls before letting it drop back to her side.
The floor felt cool beneath her bare feet as she padded down the hallway, waiting for something to happen, as it always did in Hogwarts, and knowing that, although she had never seen anyone down here, didn't mean that no one actually came down here. The thought surprised Amy Weave as she continued her slow pace down the intriguing corridor of Hogwarts.
(Heh. Random and not very good, but oh well! At least it's a post and I haven't typed up a post for /ages/ so there's my kind of attempt. ^^)

//-applaudes your brilliance- That was not bad at all! I loved it! I only wish there was some way to throw one of my charries into it if Amy was the only one who was ever down there. -ponders- Perhaps if one of them got lost?//

//Righto. ^-^//
We all know it is not unusual for a student to get lost in Hogwarts. In fact, it happens quite often because the school is so massively huge and to someone who doesn't know where they are going, terribly confusing.
Well, it is no different for poor Jennifer O'Harra. The fifth year Hufflepuff was wandering through the corridors, trying to keep herself level headed. This was no easy task due to the fact that inside the mass of red-brown curls smothering her head she was arguing with herself.
Ok, Last time I went this way, so this time I'll go that way.
What? Don't go that way you've already been there!
Wait. Are you sure?
Of course you've seen that same stupid warlock statue four times already!
Really?
Really.
Oh. I thought this was the fifth time.
Oh do shut up!
No, you shut up!
Somehow in the middle of all this she broke into a paniced run. Her school bag smacked at her hip and her robes billowed behind her as she sprinted down the empty corridors at top speed. Fear pumped through Jennifer's heart and flowed into every vein in her body. How could she have been here for five years and not recognize anything she saw?
She felt as though she were running through some sort of labyrinth searching for some unknown haven where she could be safe. Why was it so hidden from her? The corridors were so silently still it sounded like a firing cannon every time her foot hit the marble floor. There has to at least be someone here! There are so many students there is no way that it can be completely empty!
//Eh. Throws harpoon at icky post. -------> (Note the harpoon) Ah well it works.//

Amy stopped for a moment, listening to the loud crashes that echoed through this corridor and the next. They appeared to be footsteps, though they were rather heavy footsteps, so apparently the owner of aforementioned feet was running. The 7th year paused and cocked her head, trying to listen for where the offending runner was. Moving pourposefully to where the noise got louder, Amy turned suddenly and flung open one of the mismatched doors, revealing another long corridor.
THe sound of the feet appeared to be getting louder, coming closer, Amy stepped into the corridor, the door behind her, melting into the wall as it always did, leaving no trace of where she had come from. Her barefeet moved her to the middle of the corridor and she sighed as a young girl came charging round the corner. A Hufflepuff no less, Amy noted glancing at the crest resting on the young woman's heavily rising and falling chest.
"Excuse me." Amy said clearly, though not particularly firmly. "Why are you up this late at night? I'm afraid I'll have to take some points away from your house." THe tall girl said with a pained expression. SHe considered her options for a few moments and then smiled. "I suppose 5 points ought to do it, now, why are you out at this hour of the night?" She asked politely as she tilted her head at the younger girl.
This was probably the reason her friend Sonja had been given prefect from year 5 and then finally Head Girl in their seventh year, simply because she was a lot firmer than Amy, however you could argue that Amy was indeed a good prefect, perhaps not the best, but in any case, she was the prefect that had the most younger students come up to her for advice, simply because she wouldn't go and tell a teacher, or judge anyone. Her methods were, perhaps, not the best as she seemed to befriend her 'victims' instead of punish them, however she didn't have many re-offenders, simply because they felt it was wrong to put her in a position where she had to punish them, because they were 'friends' of sorts now.

Things began happening quickly, too quickly for Jen's liking. Before the girl knew what she was doing; she had completely stopped her feet from running underneath her even though the other ninety percent of her body was still going forward. She began to swing toward the ground, but managed to catch her balance before impact. It was a good thing too, the last thing she needed right now was to fall on her face and break her nose.
Just as she caught herself she heard a gentle voice coming from down the corridor reached her ears. Jennifer looked down the hall at a girl, she was older then her and- Oh no... She's a bloody prefect! she thought. And I'm out after hours! This is just brilliant!
"I- I got lost." she stuttered out. "And- And well I panicked because I've never been lost this long before. could you tell me how to get back to the ravenclaw tower?" The prefect was bound to know the way back. Weren't they supposed to know all sorts of stuff like that?

Amy smiled gently at the stuttering youth before nodding slowly. "Yes, I can show you the way back to the Ravenclaw common room. I should head back now too. Let's just hope Sonja doesn't catch us, or we'll both be in trouble." Amy said with a light laugh as she gestured for the younger girl to follow her. Quickly, she slipped her barefeet into the flat, black shoes she wore for school. The leather was a dark, engulfing black but scuffed at the toes.
"What's your name then?" She asked of the younger student, well, no point in walking in silence was there? The brunette turned sharply to open one of the doors on her right which would lead to the left wing of the school, it would be best to avoid the central area, as lots of prefects patrolled the grand staircases and such, but only a few bothered to check down the smaller corridors, as people tended not to use these, for fear of getting lost and stumbling across a much worse fate than a prefect.
(Yay! -Grabs jacket- Woo! It's way better than the 'I <3 Siriously Sexy Sirius' badge someone tried to give me the other day. xD)

"Thank you so much." Jennifer sighed with relief. She found it amazing that she had gotten through this one only loosing 5 house points. Usually the punishment for being out after hours was far worse.
The Hufflepuff walked with the prefect down the corridor. "My name's Jennifer, but if I had any friends they would call me Jen." she replied. Look at the bright side! If you HAD to be found by a prefect it's good that you were found by a nice one.
"I always thought being a prefect would be fun, but I would definitely have to work on my knowledge of the castle." she chuckled. "This isn't exactly the first time I've gotten lost." Jennifer blushed slightly at this last comment. She realized that she'd just basically admitted how forgetful she was to someone who was almost a complete stranger.

"No problem." Amy said easily with a soft smile that slowly blossomed on her face before opening another door and stepping into the empty corridor, a few torches lit along the wall to light the way. "Ah, Jen, lovely name. I'm Amy, Amy Weave. The Ravenclaw Prefect, as you already know." The brunette said with a grin before continuing her slow walk back to the Ravenclaw common room.
A soft chuckle rumbled in the seventh year's throat as she heard Jen's last comment. "You'd be surprised how often I still have to ask Sonja for directions. I have been here seven years, and yet, Hogwarts still never ceases to amaze me." She said with a laugh that reverberated throughout her entire body. "Are you sure you want to go to the Ravenclaw Tower? Do you want me to walk you back to the Hufflepuff Dorms?" Amy asked at last, tilting her head as she wondered why they were going to the wrong common room.

"Amy. I like that name. It's weird how you can be here for five years and still not know very many people." Jen remembered how many friends she used to have in her muggle hometown before she started coming to Hogwarts. The only time she ever saw her friends was in the summer and by then they had almost forgotten about her.
Perhaps I'm not supposed to know where the Ravenclaw common room is. Jennifer looked over at the prefect who had made no statements about this knowledge and mentally shrugged.
"Yes I'm sure. I think that's where I left my brass scales. See, I was on my way up there when I saw somewhere that I thought was a shortcut, and before I knew it I had no idea where I was." Jen sighed. If she didn't get her brass scales tonight she wouldn't have a chance to get them in the morning before potions, and God knows she didn't need another lecture on forgetfulness.

"Tell me about it. I swaer, we get more first years every year and they all look the same! I can't remember all their names, at least, not as well as I used to." The prefect said with a reminiscent smile as she waved a hand at Jen's explanation as to why she needded to go to the Tower. "I see, not a problem. We should be there in a little while. It always surprised me that the Ravenclaws don't have a little better quidditch team than they do, since they have so many flights of stairs to climb just to get to bed." She continued on her pathway to the Ravenclaw Tower and glanced at the younger student keeping up with her strides.
A hum fell into her head and the tune slipped melodically off her lips for a short moment before she caught herself and stopped, the echoes of sound travelling far ahead of her., breaking the eerie silence that loomed in the castle at this time of night. The only noise being the faint drip of water from somewhere immeasurably high up in the roof of the giant castle.

"I seriously think someone should make a map of this place. It would be really handy." //Oh the irony!// They walked on in silence accept for a small chuckle that emitted from Jennifer's lips as Amy commented on the stairs.
A small song reached her ears as the prefect began to hum softly. It was a lovely song that seemed almost familiar though the Hufflepuff was sure she had never heard it before. Then she broke off.
"Theres no need to stop. You are a great singer... or hummer in this case." she added. "If you want to here some embarrassing singing then just come by the common room when I have a song stuck in my head." Jennifer had often caught herself singing up in her dorm, being the only one in it.

"Yes, a map would be useful, but then, I expect someone would lose it." The seventh year said with a light chuckle. The brunette continued along the corridor, the lights on the wall seemed to be getting brighter, the orange flames no longer being tossed around in the wind but being able to dance lazily in the sheltered corridor.
Amy turned to the left and started to walk up the carpeted stairs, her hand trailing along the polished rail that ran all the way up to the next floor. Jen's compliment reached her ears and she nodded her head in to acknowledge the comment. "Thank you, humming is a soothing sound, don't you think? Anyway, I don't suppose your singing is embarrassing, I haven't met one person that can't sing at least one song reasonably on tune." Amy smiled at the younger student and continued. "I have had that tune stuck in my head for several weeks now and it is irritating the flobber juice out of me."
