Master Remus Lupin sat near the back of the class, only half-listening to what Professor Carrol the DADA teacher was saying. He knew that she was saying something about Boggarts, and how to repel them, yet Remus wasn’t interested.
He felt ill, and he knew that the full moon was tomorrow. Yet why would it affect him now? Surely he wouldn’t feel its presence until tonight, when the nearly full moon would have risen?
“Mister Lupin? Are you with us, Lupin?” Professor Carrol called, her voice high and squeaky like always. Remus looked up, amber orbs looking dazed. “Pardon?” he asked, frowning. “Are – you – with – us?” Professor Carrol asked.

Remus nodded. “Yes, sorry Professor, I’m just tired.” Remus replied. Carrol gave him a criticising look, before continuing with the class.
As soon as she’d stopped talking, Remus began to doze off again. Drifting off into the world where there was no Professor Carrol. It was heaven.
Until, his shoulders were jogged and he woke up. “Lupin!” barked Professor Carrol, steely eyes glowering at the boy. “Extra homework on defeating Boggarts.”

Sirius shot Remus a pitiful look. "Bad luck, mate!" he mouthed, "All that extra homework's gotta hurt!"
Having winked discreetly at Remus, Sirius twisted round, looking for James.
When his dark eyes did not see his friend's traits - messy hair, slight frame - he banged his fist on the desk. "Damn it..." he muttered under his breath, "He's not here, is he?!"
"Ahem," the sarcastic clearing of a throat interrupted his thoughts. Sirius grinned sheepishly at his educator. "Sorry Professor."
Rolling his eyes, Sirius returned the his studying of Boggarts - or at least he did for a few seconds. Within that short space of time, his concentartion lapsed once more, and Sirius found himself wondering what a boggart would turn into when placed before Ludo Bagman, the up and coming new quidditch player...

Remus frowned slightly at Sirius, as the boy winked at him. “It’s gonna take me ages,” Remus mouthed back. Once again, Remus began staring off into space, dreaming off a world where Carrol didn’t exist.
And then, the fist banging on his desk shattered his dreams and hopes. “Lupin! Detention!” Carrol yelled, while Remus cursed inwardly.

Sirius smiled and nodded at his friend's reply. Slowly, he turned his attention to the Professor once more - not that he was interested in Boggarts, but at the front of the class, right beside the professor, there was a fairly good looking Ravenclaw...

Remus groaned. Detention. For how long? And not to mention the pile of homework he’d have to do as well. He went to close his eyes, but stopped. He didn’t want any more trouble.

‘I’m very, very late for class,’ he thought glancing at his wrist watch, frowning. Of all the classes to be late for, he was late for Defense Against the Dark Arts. A hobby of Professor Carrol’s was to give out detentions. Not as if a detention would bother James Potter, but then again, he all ready had a few for Professor McGonnagal. Shaking his messy hair from his face, he decided it would be better if he stopped running. It’s not as if he wanted to be caught by Filch and have another detention to top off the one from Carrol. Slowing his pace from a run to a fast walk, he adjusted his bag again on his shoulder and checked his pockets for his wand.
Now, standing outside of Defense room, he stared at the door, still frowning. Class was in session, as he expected. ‘I could have just skivved off this lesson,’ he thought impatiently as he pushed open the door as quietly as possible. He slipped in the crack between the door and frame and then closed the door behind him. ‘Now to get to my seat without making a big deal of it.’ Fat chance… Gryffindors had Defense Against the Dark Arts with the Slytherins.

Sirius looked up, the creak of the un-oiled door hinges piercing his thoughts. His face split into a smile as he saw James standing at the door.
It was a smile that was soon to melt away. James obviously didn't want to be seen - and with the Slytherins around, that would be difficult.
Hastily, Sirius rummaged around in his bag, pulling out two Dr Filbusters Wet-Start NoHeat Fireworks. Having sucked on the fuse, he threw them over towards an unlucky Slytherin. Well away from both himself and James. Hopefully that distraction would suffice.....

Remus looked up, also hearing the door creak. He saw Sirius throw something, and turned to see James in the doorway. A distraction.

James covered his mouth to keep from laughing as Sirius chucked one of his Filibusters over at a Slytherin. Merlin only knows why Sirius carried around fireworks in his bag, but James was surely thankful for it at the moment. The second it went off, he dashed around the side of the room, dodging the large purple dragon the was now flying around the room.
Professor Carrol may have noticed him entering the room, but if she did, it didn’t matter now. She was fuming trying to figure out how to conceal the magnificent dragon. Over all the commotion of the screaming Slytherins, Professor Carrol’s yells, and the Gryffindors quiet cheers for Sirius, James had managed to slip into his seat next to, of course, Sirius, smiling. "Thanks, mate," he whispered, grinning.

"No problem!" Sirius smiled back, whilst bowing to the Gryffindors, lapping up their applause. "It was my pleasure,"

James beamed getting out a quill and parchment so it would look as if he were taking notes from Professor Carrol’s lecture.

Carrol was giving James one of her death looks, the particular kind Remus’ mother used if he’d just blown up the shed for the forth time in a week. Finally, she turned and continued her lecture.

James breathed a sigh of relief and then looked at his two friends seated around him. "That was close," he said grinning.
