"Cheers," Remus smiled, pulling off his own shoes as he entered the house. "Oh - no cake for me, thanks. Especially not that 'thing' you mentioned." He laughed softly, a hand reaching up to brush back wavy auburn locks. "You sure your parents won't mind us coming in, Lily?"

Lily smiled, "Well, let's ask them, shall we?" She skipped into the room to her right and glanced around the wall to see a rather short woman dusting the front room. She had long, curly blonde hair and her blue eyes were scrunched up in concentration as she tried, in vain, to bat away a large cobweb in the corner of the room. Lily's eyes then travelled to the man sat in an armchair reading the newspaper. He had ginger hair, though it was lightning to become an almost grey/blonde colour. His husky brown eyes danced across the page before resting on his youngest daughter. "Hello, Petal. What's up with the birthday girl? Had enough of gardening already?" He asked with mock surprise as his hand flew to his head.
"No, Dad, I just..some friends have come to visit me and I wondered if they could come in for a while, you know. They're in the hallway." Lily said gesturing behind her with a vague hand wave.
"Sure! From Hogwarts, are they?" Lily's mother asked as she placed down the duster, her own azure eyes dancing now as she played with the handle of the brush. Lily's parents were quite interested in their daughter's world, although they didn't want to appear nosy, or anything.
"Yes they are from Hogwarts. So, can they come in?" Lily asked whilst fluttering her eyelashes. Her father rolled his eyes before nodding his head. His daughter broke into a grin and beckoned the others into the front room. "Remus, this is my mum, Poppy, and my Dad, Joseph. Mum, Dad, this is Remus Lupin." She said pointing towards the sandy haired boy. "This is Sadie Butley and this is Sirone Silos. So there you go, everyone has met everyone." Lily said as she glanced nervously at the door, waiting for Petunia to ruin it any time soon.
"Anyone want anything to drink?" She asked brightly as her eyes were drawn from the doorway to the teenagers surrounding her.

"Ummm... Hi Mr and Mrs Evans.." Sadie smiled as she raised a hand to sweep some of her brown hair from her eyes. Seh then turned to her redheaded friend, "Umm no thanks.. I'm not really thirsty.." she replied politely.

His stomach lurched slightly as he stepped into the room, amber eyes travelling from Mr to Mrs Evans. "Hullo," Remus smiled, hands placed back into his pockets once again. He felt... Slightly out of place, to put it simply - him in his old, second-hand clothes, all dusty and dirty, whereas everything else was so cheery and clean. How lovely. "Uhm - no thanks, I'm not thirsty."

"Okay, I guess I can open all these lovely presents then!" Lily said eagerly with a small giggle, like an excited five year old at Christmas. She skipped over to the sofa and pointed for the others to sit down while she knelt on the carpeted floor. Just as she reached out to take the presents, a figure burst through the doorway. She was tall, lanky even. She was Lily's older sister;
Petunia.
She was three years older and it was apparent on her face that she thought she was better than those around her, that or she just had Dragon dung under her nose. She had short brown hair that reached below her ears and her blue eyes would've been pretty if they weren't hard and cold, like little round pebbles.
Her face was long, like a horse, and even at the tender age of seventeen she wasn't blessed with good looks. She barged in through the door and turned to talk to her parents, "Mum, what's for dinner?" The horse/thing asked in her haughtiest tone.
Her mother didn't reply but looked past her to see Lily looking at her older sister with a mixture of fear and hope. Petunia followed her gaze and glanced at her sister on the floor - 'where she belongs' - Petunia thought as a smirk came to her face. Her eyes finally roamed around the room to survey the other teenagers in the room. She walked towards her sister and bent down next to her. She turned her hard eyes to glance into her younger sibling's emerald ones and was pleased to find a look of fear and hope on her face.
"So the freak actually has some friends? Ha! That won't last for long when they see you for what I see you, a freak!" Petunia hissed at her sister before planting a sickeningly sweet smile on her face and walking to sit in the armchair. 'This should be interesting.' She thought with a delighted smirk as she watched her sister's face fall and she was rendered almost speechless.
"Thanks for that 'Tuna. But actually my friends are from Hogwarts, you know? That awful little school I go to for the year?" Lily asked venomously as she turned her angry eyes to face her shocked sister.
Petunia recoiled from the two teenagers in her living room but regained her composure as thoughts raced through her mind. 'So the freak is gaining a bit of attitude.' Petunia thought angrily as she silently seethed from the nickname Lily had dubbed her with.
"Yeah, well, I'm sure you're just as much of a freak there as you are here. With your puke, green eyes and your ugly red hair, you're disgusting. It's no wonder you never have a boyfriend when mum asks you, I mean just look at you! You're so ugly I'm surprised Mum didn't send you into an orphange straight away. And when you were at school I bet you always stick your hand up, never have any fun, always play the good little teachers pet. Yeah, sounds about right, you always were a goodytwoshoes little freak. I'm surprised you even have people visiting you on your birthday, probably out of pity anyway."
Petunia said this all very quickly, glancing nervously at her parents to make sure they didn't hear her poisonous words. She was seventeen and the child in front of her was what? Fourteen? She couldn't do anything to hurt her, at least, not as much as Petunia had hurt her now, and she knew that Lily wouldn't tell their parents, because they hadn't really noticed that much of a change in their behaivour, namely because Lily was only there for a few months of the year.
The older girl smirked, she felt so powerful over the small child on the floor, whose face was trying desperately to lose it's colour and yet flush red from anger at the same time. It was rather amusing actually.

Remus stepped forwards, a frown creasing his forehead as he opened his mouth to speak. Now, in his eyes, what Lily’s sister had just said wasn’t extremely nice at all. And, being rather protective, Remus decided to have a say in this. Even if he wasn’t supposed to have heard all that, he still had. “Now, I don’t think that was very nice, do you?” He asked briskly. And, even though a smile was plastered ’pon his face, a spark of defensive and protective fire was in his amber eyes. “Petunia, was your name?”
“Now then, Petunia – I think you should be a bit nicer to your sister. And she is /not/ a freak, and if you call her any more names and such, mark my words…” The way Remus trailed off was perhaps a tad too intimidating than he had meant to be. Ah well.

Lily was still sat in a state of shock as she contemplated what her sister had said, and there was her thinking she may have had a change of heart and come to wish her 'Happy Birthday,' but no, she'd just come over to insult her, and in front of her friends no less! Just as she was about to respond she found Remus already responding for her, and almost smiled when she saw her sister.
Petunia was cowering from the advancing boy and, in an attempt to cover her fear, scrambled to her feet, where she towered over 6ft. She sneered at the sandy haired boy; “I’ll speak to her however I like, she deserves it. Look at her, she’s pathetic! Too pathetic to even stand up for herself. I don’t know why she bothers coming back each summer; because we don’t want her here!” The seventeen year old snarled at the crouched red head. She smirked as Lily turned sharply to her, a dreadful hate burning in her jade eyes that surprised Petunia. Lily’s emerald eyes had always held sadness not anger she realised as Lily spoke.
“Don’t Petunia.” Lily spat her warning darkly at her sister.
“Or what?” The older girl sneered at the ‘birthday’ girl. She may have seemed calm but her knees were threatening to give way beneath her. It was as if her mouth wouldn’t listen to the warning bells in her head and carried on of it’s own accord. Here were three…magic folk and she was by herself. Well, there was her mum and dad, but no doubt they’d help ‘perfect Lily.’
“I hate you! Why don’t you go back to your precious school and never come back? Maybe you could shock everyone and just disappear forever, it would make everyone a lot happier.” Petunia screamed at her sister, her face becoming red and blotchy whilst her nostrils flared dangerously.
By now the parents had heard what Petunia was shouting and were looking shocked at their eldest daughter. Their mother piped up and looked at Petunia sharply.
“Now, really Petunia, calm down! It’s Lily’s birthday, after all.” She said whilst shooting apologetic glances at both their guests.
“Oh yes, fourteen years ago when perfect Lily was born, “ Petunia said sarcastically and continued, “ And my life was a living hell. Why won’t you just crawl down a hole and die? In fact, I wish you’d never been…”
“Don’t Petunia.” Lily murmured in the same low tones, emerald eyes flashing dangerously as she clenched her fists until the knuckles went white. But Petunia continued.
“…born. At least then we could all have normal lives, without some abnormal cow polluting the air, polluting MY family. I bet the only reason you come back at the holidays is because no one likes ‘Perfect Lily’ at your school. In fact, I bet these ‘friends’ are only here out of pity. Yeah, that sounds about right, perfect Lily is now, ugly, unpopular Lillian Evans.” She paused as this sunk in and smiled triumphantly at the look on her sister’s face. “I’m right, aren’t I? Aww, poor lickle Lily-kins, no one loves her, she’s all alone. No one to love her at all….
>SMACK<
Petunia stumbled backwards as she clutched her stinging face. Lily stod in front of the older girl, breathing heavily out as she studied the red hand mark now present on Petunia’s left cheek.
“Lily!” Her mother cried as she stood horrified at the scene before her.
“You little bitch! You’ll…” But Petunia never finished as she was cut off by Lily as she began talking, just loud enough for everyone to hear. Every syllable was filled with such hate, rage, anger, sadness and pity that her voice throbbed painfully from all the emotions it held.
“Don’t you ever, /ever/, talk to me about love. For how can someone like you, someone without a heart, who can’t feel anything except the coldness of an empty shell, know what love is anyway?”
Lily shook her head at the young woman before her as she turned to sit back on the floor. Petunia stood, staring at Lily as though she’d grown too heads and she felt tears well up in her hard eyes as the barriers within her broke down for a second. Lily’s words had cut her like a blade, cut right through her soul and she couldn't shake off the feeling that Lily was right. She'd become so cold, so very cold. She shoved past Lily, feeling worse than she ever had when yelling at her sister and flew up the stairs in a flurry of tears and stamping.
After having shot Lily an odd look, her mother rushed up the stairs after her weeping daughter and her dad clasped her shoulder, giving her a smile before disappearing after his wife.
“Sorry you guys had to see that.” Lily apologised quietly as she examined her hands in her lap.

Remus blinked, his own hand rising slowly, but then dropping next to his side. Lily had beaten him to smacking Petunia, but it wasn’t really his place to be honest. I mean, how would he explain /that/ to Lily’s parents? A slight snarl – merely a curl of his top lip and bearing of clenched teeth – remained ’pon his pale face, and his right fist was still clenched at his side. “It’s all right, Lily,” The lad forced a slight smile, resisting the urge to follow Petunia upstairs and deliver that much wanted smack. “So… Why don’t you open the presents, hmm?”
Lily managed a weak smile as she looked gratefully at Remus. "Thanks, yeah, I guess I could open your presents. You guys, thanks for coming today by the way, it's nice to see some friendly faces. You can probably see why I don't really enjoy holidays all that much." Lily said forcing a dry laugh as she coiled her legs underneath her again.

"We'll have to try and come round every holiday, eh?" Remus chuckled softly and briefly, calming down now as he plopped down on the floor. He sat there on his knees, hands resting in his pockets, a smile still clear 'pon his pale and tired face. How long was it 't'ill the next full moon? He had yet to check his calendar. "Go on then - open 'em."

"Yeah, yeah okay." Lily repeated almost numbly. Had she just done what she thought she'd done? Oh crap it. Now Petunia would never speak to her and there was a little bit of Lily that so desperately wanted their friendship back together again instead of the pieces that lay around them now. Oh well, that cow got what she deserved, right? So why were Lily's insides squirming uncomfortably?
Slowly she took the presents and began to unwrap the paper surrounding them. She couldn't begin to thank her friends for coming to visit her, let alone buy her gifts.

A loud knock was heard on the front door, and Lily's parents hurried to answer it. There stood a tall girl, of about thirteen. She was wering a bright red skirt and gold blouse. "Hi," Anya said cheerfully. "Is Lily here?" Mrs. Evans led her into the house. When Anya spotted Lily, she ran over and flung her arms around the other girl. "LILY!" she said un reasonably loud. "Sorry I'm late," she added bright blue eyes dancing.

"Anya?" Lily asked quietly as she heard a voice in the hallway. Her head shot up and she left the half unwrapped present on the carpeted floor as she stood in curiousity. Suddenly she felt arms being flung around her neck and cried, "Anya!" She engulfed her in a warm hug as her face regained some of her natural colour and she smiled at her best friend. "I'm so glad you could come!" She said, genuinly happy to see her best friend.

Anya grinned. "A party ain't a party till I'm here... or until some one gets drunk... but I think your parents will prefer the former." She pulled a long thin box out from her pocket. "Open min last, Ok?"

"Okay, sure." Lily said a little confused but happy all the same to see her best friend. She giggled at Anya's comment and smiled, "Yeah, I don't suppose my parents /would/ like that very much." She wrapped her fingers around Remus' present and gently took the paper from around it. Her eyes lit up when she saw what was inside; a glass lily flower lay delicately in her hands.
"Remus, it's ... it's ... I love it! Thank you so much!" The fourteen year old exclaimed as she threw her arms around his neck and squealed delightedly. She looked nce more at the object in her hands and smiled before turning to Sadie's present which lie currently un touched.
Lily picked this up and gently took off the paper, before throwing away the wrapping into a pile in the corner of the room as she gazed at the kimino in her arms. "Sadie, it's gorgeous, thank you so much!" Lily said in a half whisper as she wrapped the girl in her arms before placing the kimino gently on the floor beside her.
Next, she turned to Sirone's present. She fingered the wrapping gently before pulling at the paper from the present and revealing the small box. Lily glanced questioningly at Sirone before opening the box with a slight creak. Her emerald eyes widened when she saw the gold necklace with her name laced into it. "Thank Sirone, this is really beautiful. You didn't have to go to all this trouble, guys." She said as she looked around them all again before pulling Sirone into a hug and turning to look at Anya with a grin on her face. "Now can I open yours? Please?" She asked as she sat back on the floor, looking at the presents around her lovingly.
(Okay so maybe 'lovingly' is a bit over the top, but you know when you're just so happy to get something and you're like *le sigh*? Well anyway....^^)
